Municipalities

Responsibility of the Municipalities

The municipality is responsible for establishing a working relationship with the participating service group, communicating collection information, knowing tire locations and updating the public on the collection process.

Administrators will play key roles in the Black Gold Rush project. It will be up to the municipality to spearhead the collection process in each community and to be the main point of contact with the public.  The municipality will be responsible for notifying their residents about the collection and distributing SSTC provided communication materials.

Municipalities will be asked to designate a community collection time and location. Council must approve this decision. It will be the responsibility of the municipalities to coordinate the collection site and be responsible for the physical management in conjunction with the service group they are working with.

    Specifically municipal administrators will:

    • Designate an individual(s) who will be the main contact person with SSTC.  This person will take responsibility for collection documentation and will be responsible for compiling documentation should someone request a yard-site pick up.

    • Be the first point of contact for the public;
    • Complete the application with the service group using the dates and locations approved by council;
    • Be responsible to work with participating service groups to communicate the collection of scrap tires, including the distribution of SSTC provided posters and print material to inform ratepayers of the collection process; and,
